Large RAM compute flavours announced

28 May, 2018

The Catalyst Cloud has introduced new compute flavours to support memory-intensive applications, such as bioinformatics and big data analysis. The new compute flavours have 512 GB to 1.2 TB of RAM and from 32 to 64 vCPUs.

"We have been using these compute flavours for a genome assembly proof of concept, and the results have been very positive so far," said Helge Dzierzon, Team Leader of Bioinformatics at Plant and Food Research.

Flavours with up to 64 vCPUs and 512 GB of RAM are already available to everyone. Flavours with more than 512 GB of RAM are being beta-tested with selected customers and should become available to the general public in the next two months.

"I'm very pleased to see researchers creating pre-configured images with popular assemblers and sharing them with others in the community. The easy to use image sharing feature on the Catalyst Cloud creates a hub for researchers to exchange tools and best practices," said Bruno Lago, Managing Director of the Catalyst Cloud.
